Notice of Water Rate Adjustment for Ellis Water Members
09/25/2025
The City of Linton has announced a substantial increase in water rates, raising the cost by 56%. As the purchase price of water from the City of Linton represents the largest monthly operating expense for Ellis Water, this rate hike will have a direct impact on the overall cost of providing water services to our members.
Due to the significant increase in the cost of water, Ellis Water must adjust its rates. However, our commitment to responsible expense management means we will not pass the full 56% increase on to our members. We are dedicated to minimizing input costs while continuing to deliver clean and safe water to every member.
The updated rates will take effect beginning with the next billing cycle. The new rate structure, before taxes, is outlined below:
Rate Type |
Gallons |
Charge |
Base Rate |
Up to 2,000 gallons |
$26.50 |
Step 1 |
2,000 to 3,000 gallons |
add $13.00 |
Step 2 |
Every additional 1,000 gallons |
add $9.00 |
Members who use the minimum amount of water each month will see a 20% increase in their bills. The average customer, typically using around 4,400 gallons, will experience an approximate increase of 22.8%. Members with higher water usage should expect a greater percentage increase in their monthly bills.
We recognize that changes to water rates may be concerning. Please be assured that this decision was reached after careful review of our operating costs and the ongoing need to provide reliable water service. If you have any questions regarding your bill or the new rate structure, please contact our office at 812-847-9898 or visit our website at www.elliswater.org for more information.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
